Capturing and Importing Sources

This section explains how to capture and import sources from a DirectShow-based web camera, and how to capture analog sources.

Note

  • For cameras, decks, and other external devices used for importing sources, it is necessary to register their connection information, video format for import and other information as device presets in advance.

    Registering Device Presets

1) Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click [Select Input Device].

  • The [Select Input Device] dialog box appears, and the list of device presets registered in system settings is displayed.

2) Select a device preset, and click [OK].

Alternative
  • Same operations as steps 1) to 2) are available using the following methods.

    • Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click an input preset to display the device preset.

      The device preset needs to be assigned as an input preset in advance.

      Assigning Device Presets to Input Presets

    • Click the operation button for the input preset of the Player to display the device preset.

      The input preset assigned to an operation button needs to be displayed on the Player in advance.

    • Displaying the device preset assigned to the input preset 1: [F2]

    • Displaying the device preset assigned to the input preset 2: [F3]

    • Displaying the device preset assigned to the input preset 3: [F4]

3) Set the reel name, if necessary.

  • To set a reel name, uncheck [UserBit is used as a Reel No.] and enter a reel name. You can also select previously entered reel names from the list.

4) Click [OK].

5) Click [Capture] on the Player.

  • Capturing starts.

  • To stop the capture midway, click [Stop].

  • The clip is registered to the bin.

Alternative
  • Press [F9] on the keyboard.

  • Click the [Capture] list button on the Player, and click [Video and Audio].

  • If you click the [Capture] list button on the Player and select [Video Only] or [Audio Only], only the video part or audio part will be captured.

  • Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click [Capture].

  • Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click [Video Capture] or [Audio Capture].

  • Files can be automatically divided at capture.

  • During capture, you can add a marker with a comment to the source clip.

  • To change a reel name halfway through the process, for example, when swapping tapes, click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click [Reel No. Settings].

Importing from Device Not Possible to Deck Control

Analog sources recorded on video tape, etc. can be imported via Bay or A/D converter. It is also possible to import sources from the Web camera, microphone, etc., which is DirectShow-based.

Note

  • When analog sources are imported from an analog device or device connected by the HDMI terminal, the device cannot be controlled from EDIUS.

  • For external devices used for importing sources, it is necessary to register their connection information, video format for import and other information as device presets in advance.

1) Locate the start point of the capture part on the external input device.

  • This operation is not required when capturing from a device such as Web camera or microphone.

2) Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click [Select Input Device].

  • The [Select Input Device] dialog box appears, and the list of the device presets registered in the system settings is displayed.

3) Select a device preset, and click [OK].

    • Click [Capture] on the menu bar, and click an input preset to display the device preset.

      The device preset needs to be assigned as an input preset in advance.

    • Click the operation button for the input preset of the Player to display the device preset.

      The input preset assigned to an operation button needs to be displayed on the Player in advance.

6) Click [Capture] on the Player.

  • Capturing starts.

  • Proceed to step 8) when capturing from the device such as Web camera, microphone, etc.

7) Play back the external input devices.

8) After finishing capturing of necessary parts, click [Stop] in the [Capture] dialog box.

  • When capturing is stopped, the captured clip is registered to the bin.

9) Stop the playback of external input devices.

Note

  • The source settings, such as bitrate or frame size, vary depending on your device.
