EDIUS freezes or crashes while using the application

Here are troubleshooting for freezing or crashing EDIUS.

1. Upgrade BIOS, drivers
Confirm if current BIOS and drivers are up to date. Especially, BIOS and audio, graphics and network drivers should be up to date. Because, they may much affect to stable working of the system and EDIUS.

2. Project format
Project format defines timeline render format, video frame rate, resolution, field order and video bit depth. This is crashing EDIUS while playing (or operates) timeline. So, matrix of above elements may affect to the issue. Please get sample project the issue occurs. Looking project format may be helpful.
Also, system load may increase due to project settings. So, please test following project format (start a new project with the settings) and place same clips you use then confirm if the issue occurs. Suggested project format won’t make system load:

Test Project format
Resolutioin: FHD or smaller
Frame rate / Field type: 59.94i or 50i (interlaced should be selected)
Video depth: 8 bit
Render format: GV HQ AVI (standard)
* Other parameters won’t affect to system load

3. Project and clip files location
If regular workflow is storing & opening project and clip from network drive, try to open a project from local drive. Of course, linked assets should be stored in local drive.

4. Placed clip format
For timeline playback, EDIUS decodes placed clips. Working decoder is vary depending on placed clip format. So, please attempt to place another type of clip like GV HQ AVI then playback the timeline. If the issue goes away by placing another type of clip, please provide sample clip.
If you do it, also provide the information what type of clip placed instead of and the issue goes away.

5. Switch to software preview mode
If you use GV 0r third party video hardware for preview, switch to software preview mode for narrow down:

1) Select Settings > System Settings > Hardware > Preview Device
2) Deselect the hardware. If EDIUS 9 or earlier, select “Generic OHCI – Output”
3) Click [Apply] then [OK] button.

If the issue goes away, installed hardware may not work stably. If GV hardware is installed, re-install EDIUS for re-installation of GV hardware driver – see the knowledge base “Procedure – reinstall EDIUS” section
If third party hardware is installed, confirm if the hardware works stably by using hardware maker’s software.
